Aug 11, 2010 AIR, Flash, Flash Catalyst, Flex, General
Thibault Imbert just blogged about the release of Flash Player 10.1.82.76 which includes support for H.264 GPU Decoding on the Mac. You should notice now a nice difference when playing H.264 content on your Mac in terms of CPU usage. We rarely enable new features in security releases but we really wanted to enable such a cool feature. For more details about it, Tinic already posted about this .

Developing Mobile Flash / Flex – Scaling and Zooming
Jul 19, 2010 AIR, Flash, Flex, General, Resources
Mobile development with Flash and Flex is a new frontier, full of new adventures and discoveries. Recently I discovered something that might be useful to you. By default the mobile web browser on my Android 2.2 device scales a web page to make more room to display pages typically built for a desktop profile. Here is what a little test mobile Flex app I built looks like: Strange! The width and height are larger than the screen resolution.

A Technoracle guest post written by James Mowery. With technology and the internet still growing after 15 years, web design has become an industry in itself. The world is filled with eager, talented graphic designers who are learning as the technology itself progresses, each with the goal of putting their own spin on the world of design. Launching m.flash.com & BBC iPlayer for Android
Jun 25, 2010 AIR, Flash, General, Resources
m.flash.com We have released Flash Player 10.1 to our OEM partners in what has been an incredible engineering effort working with our Open Screen Project partners. One of the problems with the Flash Player generally, is that it is invisbile. As a user its so easy to forget that a single web technology is powering billions of videos, games, Rich Internet Applications and now desktop applications with AIR. So we have been working with the worlds leading content providers, alongside our OEM partners to create experiences that shine. With that, we’ve aggregated these together over at m.flash.com so that you can enjoy them on your mobile phones. I think it will really help to sell those mobile and device projects that we’ve all been thinking about. iPlayer If I’m honest, this is the one that I have been most excited about, and this week the BBC launched iPlayer 3.0. with support for Android Froyo devices and Flash Player 10.1. As I live in the UK, and I know many of you don’t, let’s take a look at just how huge the service has become.

The Software as a Service (SaaS) Pattern Explained
Jun 24, 2010 AIR, Flash, Flex, General, Resources
(Reprinted courtesy of O’Reilly from the Book “Web 2.0 Architectures”. Purchase book here ) The Software as a Service (SaaS) acronym has confused many people as vendors have abused the term to hawk anything with a network capability. In order to understand it, it is useful to tease out the core aspects of it agnostic to any specific implementation or product. James Governor , Dion Hinchcliffe and I wrote about it in the book ” Web 2.0 Architectures ” along with other patterns.

Top 10 StackOverflow.com Flex Contributors
Jun 18, 2010 AIR, Flash, Flex, General, Resources
Back in the day the FlexCoders Yahoo! Group was all the rage. It was the place where Flex rock stars like Alex Harui and Doug McCune hung out and helped the community learn Flex. But these days a lot of developers have turned to StackOverflow.com as their primary resource for getting answers to their technical questions. I started using Stack Overflow over a year ago primarily because it makes it easy to follow the conversation around a specific question and quickly identify the right answer.

I updated my “Tomcat Launcher” sample application for AIR 2.0 GA. “Tomcat Launcher” allows you to start / stop Tomcat and view the standard output log without opening a DOS box or Terminal window. It also allows you to open that log in your default Text Editor which is another new feature of AIR 2.0
